Maplewood’s Ward 3 residents will have four candidates to vote on in a special election on August 8 to fill the vacant council seat. The deadline for approved petitions was May 23.

Each petition needed 50 signatures approved by the St. Louis County Board of Elections.

The candidates will appear on the ballot in the order their petitions were returned to Maplewood City Hall (below). The special election is August 8. The candidate who receives the most votes on that day will be elected.

  1. Patrick Richards (Walter Avenue)
  2. Jennifer Schmidt (Elm Avenue)
  3. Steve Terelmes (Hazel Avenue)
  4. Kristen Spencer (Oxford Boulevard)

Update: Patrick Richards has officially withdrawn from the race.

The seat was vacated when former council member Barry Greenberg was elected mayor in April.

  1. If you’ve met Kristen Spencer, you know she’s a warm, engaging person who actively listens to what you have to say. She’s a problem solver who loves Maplewood and would eagerly serve on the city council. When Kristen commits to something, whether training for a marathon because she believes in the cause, or coming to the aid of a friend who needs help moving, she’ll pour everything she has into her promises. If she tells you she’ll do something, you can count on it.
