The Brentwood Debate Team competed in the final tournament of our regular season this weekend. We attended the Marquette Invitational along with 32 other schools from around the state.

The Marquette Invitational is a large tournament to end the season and get all students geared up for districts. Brentwood had three students advance into final rounds and win awards in five different events at this extremely competitive tournament! Congratulations to the following competitors:

  • Zach Arrindell: 1st Place Prose Interpretation and 2nd Place Program Oral Interpretation
  • Ben Haug: 3rd Place Storytelling and 6th Place Humorous Interpretation
  • Meghan Haug: 5th Place Informative Speaking

This is the fourth time this year that Zach has placed first in his event! He not only placed first in prose, but also second in POI, which is a major accomplishment for one tournament! Ben is also only a freshman and has established himself as a major competitor heading into districts in two highly competitive interpretation events. And finally, Meghan has competed in Informative four times this year and has been in final rounds at three of those competitions. Congratulations to all three of our amazing finalists this weekend!

The following students also earned the next degree in the NSDA after the competition this weekend:

  • Gino Kler – Degree of Honor
  • Lindsey Trieu – Degree of Excellence

I cannot believe the regular season has come to an end. It has been a great year with a very young team, and Mrs. McCann and I are so proud of all they have accomplished. Watching a team of mostly freshmen and sophomores win so many awards this year is pretty amazing. We can’t wait to see what happens at districts!
