Maplewood pet supply store, Airedale Antics owners Tony and Sheri Phipps, on Sunday hosted their ninth annual fundraiser for Airedale Terrier Rescue and Adoption (ATRA), an event they call Airedale August.

Airedales are very protective of their family and great baby sitters, an owner said.

“Everyone says their dogs are human, but I’ve never had a dog like this,” Abbie Durham, an Airedale owner said.

“I was a dog-obsessed before, but now I’m just Airedale-obsessed. It’s a personality thing, that’s really hard to explain; they won’t settle for being anything other than a full member of the family. You’re going to have a lot of trouble if you leave them out of whatever you’re doing. This is Nipper, but he’s not nippy.

ATRA facilitates Airedale rescues and adoptions in 14 states, and Ontario.
