5 trophies for BHS debate

The Brentwood Debate Team competed in the final tournament of our regular season this weekend. We attended the Marquette Invitational along with 32 other schools from around the state. The Marquette Invitational is a large tournament to end the season and get all students geared up for districts. Brentwood had three students advance into final rounds and win awards in five different events at this extremely competitive tournament! Congratulations to the following competitors:

Zach Arrindell: 1st Place Prose Interpretation and 2nd Place Program Oral Interpretation
Ben Haug: 3rd Place Storytelling and 6th Place Humorous Interpretation
Meghan Haug: 5th Place Informative Speaking

This is the fourth time this year that Zach has placed first in his event!

‘Tiny but mighty’ Brentwood Debate weekend

The debate team spent Saturday at the Windsor Valentine Invitational. We had a great day seeing some different competition and trying out a new tournament! The following students earned awards at Windsor:

Kyra Brown: 3rd Place Poetry Interpretation
Sophie Breitmeyer: 3rd Place Dramatic Interpretation
Meghan Haug: 1st Place Radio Speaking

The tournament only gave awards to the top three competitors in each event, but we also had several students advance into the final round in their event:

Ben Haug and Zach Rahaman: Storytelling Finals
Angeles Calzada: Radio Speaking Finals

The following students advanced their degree in the NSDA after their performance this weekend:

Kyra Brown: Degree of Distinction
Zach Rahaman: Degree of Honor

We took six students to the tournament and all six were in final rounds! It was definitely a tiny, but mighty Brentwood Debate weekend! Kyra and Sophie earned their first awards in poetry and DI this year, and Meghan took first place in radio for the second time this year.

Brentwood debaters make finals in Jefferson City tourney

The debate team attended the Jefferson City Capital Classic this weekend. Thirty-five schools from around the state of Missouri attended the tournament, and it was the largest and most competitive tournament we have been to all year. We always have a great time in Jefferson City and this year was no different. However, while we left early last year because we did not have anyone advance to finals, we were able to close down the tournament this year because we still had a team in. It was a great weekend!

Brentwood debaters win conference honors 3rd year in a row

Happy Sunday Debate Team! The team competed at Ritenour High School this weekend for the third tournament in the conference series. Humorous Interpretation: Hank Wall – 1st place, Ben Haug – 6th place

Weekend update from Brentwood Debate coach Robyn Haug

We always start our second semester of competition with a weekend dedicated to our novices. The novice invitational weekend is the last chance for our newest members to compete against only other new members. Friday night the kids competed in their individual events and Saturday they debated. All rounds at this tournament are judged by the varsity members around the district, so it is a learning experience for both the novices and the varsity. We had a great weekend!
