Brentwood mayoral candidates face crowd, answer questions: video

An estimated 160 came to the Brentwood School District Conference Center Wednesday to watch mayoral candidates Patrick Toohey, Mark Wilson and Chris Thornton answer questions posed by audience members in a League of Women Voters (LWV) forum.

photo(9)The candidates gave opening statements then answered questions by four members of the Brentwood High School debate team—Austin Koster, Jonathan Duffe, Megan Shipley and Seamus Saunders. Unfortunately the candidates’ microphones weren’t sufficient for this part of the program. A different arrangement fixed the problem.

A LWV moderator asked the questions based on questions from the audience written on cards.

The candidates handled questions on what they would do in their first 90 days in office, balancing residential and commercial interests, big vs. small business, where to allocate city funds, the East Central Dispatch Center, Boys Hope Girls Hope, a texting while driving law, the mayor’s role as a tie-breaker in meetings and others.

In their opening statements and throughout the event, all three stressed the importance of communication and transparency.

The election date is April 7.

  1. It is time to clean house, on every action there needs to be a cutting off of the prior practices while they are reviewed. P&Z ordinances need to mean something. Safety and security needs to mean something. Toohey and Thornton are all ready to follow as before, and we continue to go down. Is that really want the residents want? The votes will tell us, and I am one who is disgusted with this dogfight of whether to move to resident concerns or sell off the whole community little by little. I apologize for being so frustrated, but the in-fighting has become what it should never have become: neighbor against neighbor.

  2. Incident was verified after the fact. Read 40 South, name names and see the financial interests of CT. I don’t buy his independence from “business, rotten as usual”—the incursion of self-serving candidates is remarkable–Let’s see Brentwood run by independent candidate Mark Wilson. This has been nothing less than an Illinois shutter of Daly (sp) coming to Brentwood. Take people who care, like Mark Wilson and remove those who have agendas—I was the first to meet with Ald. Toohey after his announcing. I have never uttered one word of what he disclosed, except that “he listened.” Re Chris Thornton, it is a matter of family finance improvement using the mayoral step ladder. The WLV forum was an outstanding performance of style over substance by Thornton. I have watched and studied speaker for years, and he used every trick in the book to proclaim what wonders he could achieve, but I factually know he can not–not without screwing the residents.

I am tired of the opaque gloss Thornton and Toohey put over their private plans. I have taken in confidence statements that I cannot in good conscience put forward as a breach. Just do your best and vote for who you believe is truthful and in Brentwood’s best interests. I am no body–just one vote in a big election for Brentwood. I will vote for Mark Wilson.

  3. Here is something that nobody has brought up. The Thornton supports keep saying that Wilson’s comment was inappropriate because Thornton didn’t have a chance to respond.

What response could he possibly have had? The allegation was not against or about him. The allegation was against Kelly. Unless Thornton has spent every moment of every day since the beginning of the campaign with Kelly, he can’t say for a fact that it didn’t happen. There are a few people in the world that know for a fact wether it happens or not. Pat Kelly, “the business owner, and the NSA.

The rest of us have to use our judgement and history to decide wether it is believable or not.

FACT: Pat Kelly supports Thornton as evidenced by the sign in his yard.

FACT: Kelly has a history of dirty and strong arm politics.

This leads me to believe that the allegation against PAT KELLY is true. You use your own logic to decide for yourself.

  4. I am increasingly disgusted with Chris Thornton’s false faces, ties to keeping B’wd under the thumb of a savvy, but not resident oriented mayoral political thread line of Pat Kelly.

Mark Wilson is the better candidate, has mutually reached out to Pat Kelly as an emeritus with input, but not having the final say. This is CHANGE.

I am sick of Chris Thornton’s bag of tricks, and I went to the LWV forum hoping to see something different than antics of performance and substance-empty public speaking skills–and did not.

I am tired of this election. I will vote for Wilson as truthful, non-performance oriented candidate, and whose FIRST 40 South interview hit every hot button going on in B’wd. I do not expect magic, but honesty and no ties to the commerce here is a complete breach from our past.

  5. Upon what facts are you basing this belief? It was an allegation given at a time when Thornton was unable to respond.

  6. Yes–just not in charge by proxy, Chris Thornton.

Mark Wilson, who is having a open house at the Brentwood Rec Center, from 6-8P tonight (Wed/25th) stated that both he and Pat Kelly did a mutual outreach to show that Pat’s years of experience would not be lost if Mark is elected. This is the Pat Kelly I have always known: a moral family man. Every criticism I ever leveled against him was related to job performance, and not personal.

Mark Wilson is quite different in substance over style and showmanship from Chris Thornton, I trust Mark Wilson to be able to synthesize input from all sources, and not be “more of the same mayoral style” as I believe Chris is more of the same. We will have a new group of aldermen–a new mayor, and Pat could play a vital role of emeritus.

btw, Mr. C., I saw your comment about God not having a computer—cute!

  7. Mark Wilson is holding two events, 3/25 & 3/31 both at the Brentwood Rec Center from 6-8pm. Please come out and talk to Mr. Wilson about any topic on your mind.

    • Chris Thornton is holding a reception tomorrow evening (3.25.15) at the Brentwood Forest Clubhouse from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to ask questions of him and learn about his goals and vision for the City. Everyone is welcome.

  8. I am always surprised when this thread does not die a natural death. God is very providential, so now I’m ready for a dose of Divine Mercy that April 7 arrive and leave, we just have a new mayor who genuinely is pro-resident and does not lie by omission. Good night.

  9. Word for thought, not accusing anybody of anything, let’s work together to keep the peace. Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish. Proverbs 18:13. He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, therefore do not associate with a gossip. Proverbs 20:19.

  10. At the end of all this acrimony, we will have to come together with one final selection of a mayor. It would not be a bad idea to ratchet down the vitriol so we do not end up with one group of ‘sour grapes’ or another. The hostilities are getting old and Brentwood needs to come together, whoever the residents decide for this position. Bad communications and animosity are part of the reason this is such an important election. I hope we can get to a congruent flow of good will at the end of the election, no matter who wins.

    • Just when i was trying (above) to be diplomatic, which is my “low water” mark—providence slapped me silly-straight. Driving south on Brentwood, between White and Litzinger on the Southwest side was a completley levelled commercial property site, empty but for a sign that could be seen by a communications sattelite from space, “Next mayor for Brentwood CHRIS THORNTON”. As well as being right there where it would be hard to miss, it was adjacent to the Brentwood Boulevard “men at work” “lane closed” signage–that forced every driver to square off with this booming piece of visual thunder.

Really? REALLY??? So, what candidate Thornton is missing in a Brentwood sea of blue Mark Wison signs in individual residential yards, he has cetainly created as a screaming “moment” on a commercial property.

And can we only guess that the wife’s Insurance businessness has an eye on that prime piece of RE?

After the bombshell that the current mayor is dictating to owners/managers of commercial properties are to post signage for candidate Thornton, i believed i had been exposed to it all the back room dealings of electoral favoring i could stand. I honestly believed this election was about changing the years of bad behaviors of our Mayor, and his ‘good ole boys’ club. But there it was, BIGGER than life: the same damn thing.

If you respond to this, do yourself a favor and post to people generally. How can Brentwood residents be SO good, and as Candidate Wilson says in why he is running for Mayor, “You can’t walk the streets of Brentwood and not find kind, generous and open people.” — and our current politicians and the policical process be so opposite–? Buenos noches, Don Quioxte

      • Maureen – With a little bit of research you would find out that Three Monkeys, LLC owns that property and acquired it in May of 2011. Three Monkeys, LLC’s registered agent is Chris Thornton and he paid $265,000 for the property. So he already owns that “prime piece of RE”. So before you start spreading lies you should do some research. I am not even voting for Chris, I am voting for Pat Toohey who has avoided all the dirty politics. I just couldn’t take you spreading lies when people are still making up their mind about the up coming elections.

If people used their brains a little bit more they wouldn’t fall for everything they read and see

        • And just to add a little bit more. The County had the property valued at $211,700 back in 2011 and the height of the market in 2008 at $235,200. It is currently valued at $114,600. Froesel Robertwalter was the prior owner of the property and not the City. So he paid over the assessed value by the County and purchased it from an individual not the City.

No need to respond, just wanted to show you the error in your ways.

          • And “Truth, thy name is…oh—oh wait…uh, well sort of ‘truth.’

Wait… No. No. wait– not the whole truth. I edit down from the comprehensive, global information available…so i get to say what i want. (it’s getting sweaty in here…) so Wait!! no.I AM–the OTHER truth. [Yeahhhhhhh…that’s the ticket!!] (parenthetic words bootlegged from SNL) Yeah….that’s me…I’m the Other truth.”

          • @Truth, re Question: We’ve heard residents say they want a mayor who serves residents more and businesses less. A disclosure last month showed that all your campaign contributions came from businesses: $1,000 from the American Subcontractors Association, $1,000 from Don Musick and $100 from the Association of General Contractors. Does that mean you’re going to serve businesses more than residents?

Toohey: “No. That report came out before I had any campaign events and I have received donations from residents prior to it and since.”
            ____________________________________________________________

Read between the lines. By law he had to identify contributors, and it is disingenuous to use the Bill Clinton method of telling the “truth”: Bill Clinton, who “never had sex with ‘that woman.'” and “Depending on what the definition of ‘is'” relied on a flimsy, technical use of words to tell his personal truth, the one he for which he was impeached, and what everyone else already knew was a lie.

        • I think you are lying by omission. You did not specifically say that the RE was not going to house his family business. So you don’t know? Or is it inconvenient to bring that to light? I stand by my point that CT is no different than the current mayor–and it’s time to clean house.

As for candidate Toohey, I was the first person to hear his campaign plan for Brentwood layout as an interested citizen and The Bread Company. The plan was heavy on the considerations of commercial development, and I lacked an awareness that he gave a crap of deference to residents over the commercial interests. I posted on 40 South that he was a listener, which is true, especially in that our current mayor quit listening a long while back. I never said anything else about the meeting I had with him to anyone, until today. Then came the information about his funding–all self and commercial RE and builder subcontractors. Just my take-away. Vote for whomever you want in office. I want Mark Wilson, for ever growing informative reasons.

          • Question – Why does it matter if it is going to his business or not? So an investment he made 4 years ago, precludes him from being a qualified a mayor. Think about what you are saying. If you invest in the community and purchase a property for your business you are doing back door deals. That is ludacris.

Point 2 – Once again you are sending out uninformed opinions. (Sorry Doug but I am linking to another site) Why don’t you read this: http://thebrentwoodspirit.com/featured/toohey-says-inside-experience-is-his-edge/

A small quote from that article that I recommend you read before spreading more lies…

Question: We’ve heard residents say they want a mayor who serves residents more and businesses less.

    • Hey Maureene- several weeks ago in this forum you were proposing that Pat Kelly be kept around city hall after the election of a new mayor as a resource for the new administration based upon his vast experience with running the city of Brentwood. Do you still support that idea? Just wondering.

  11. For anyone who might have concerns regarding Mark Wilson’s inaccurate allegations toward Chris Thornton, I invite you to reach out to him, and hear his political views and visions for our city. It is becoming concerning if and when residents begin forming opinions of a particular candidate when listening to things being shared by the candidates opposition/strong supporters of the opposition.

It becomes extremely sad when the opposition must begin sharing inaccurate information in order to win an election. Notice, there is a big difference between these two candidates. One candidate continues to show the respect and professionalism Brentwood needs for a POSITIVE change in order to move forward, unite our residents and accomplish great things in our city.

I support Chris Thornton as a candidate who can make this happen!!

    • I suggest you talk to some neighbors who have told stories of the trash talking from the Thornton campaign. You might change your mind on professionalism and respect.

      • In years past “old people” were afraid to post a yard sign for 2 particular candidates for fear the police or fire wouldn’t respond as quickly to a call at their residence. I’m not kidding, this has been heard 1st hand by many people in Brentwood going back 15 years.

  12. I believe Wilson did take a cheap shot at Thornton knowing Thornton was out of time to defend himself. Wilson took a moment of opportunity to show his true integrity .

      • Wow–on spring break and missed alot. I think it is highly hypocritical for the Thornton campaign to cry “cheap shot” as Thonton supporters have been throwing digs for weeks on Facebook. Also, my elderly neighbors told me that a highly visible Thornton supporter kept pushing them and they felt like they had to put up a sign because she was relentless and just wanted her to go away. I personally find that very disrespectful. Find it hard to believe he doesnt know about it since he’s been out campainging with her . Either way I’m supporting either Toohey or Wilson–tired of the cherubic public face but underhanded antics.

  13. I believe Wilson did take a cheap shot at Thornton when he knew Thornton was unable to defend himself, the fact his time was up presented Wilson with a moment of opportunity. So much for a clean debate

  14. Since “J” reposted her comment from the facebook group here, I will repost mine as well.

Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and say the business owner thing didn’t happen. I believe it did, but I’ll admit that I wasn’t there so I couldn’t say with authority that it did. The fact remains that Pat Kelly supports Chris Thornton for mayor. That is a fact, he had a sign in his yard. Would you support a candidate that you didn’t agree with on most issues, or the most important issues? This must mean that Chris Thornton shares ideals with Pat Kelly. As I said, that’s a perfectly valid view to have, and if you do, by all means, vote for him. I don’t happen to share that vision for the future of Brentwood.

    • Grow a skin everyone. More often than not your enemy’s enemy is your enemy too. No apology necessary, its a completely valid thought process. You don’t need to ever meet the candidate or even speak to him/her to not trust them based upon their known associates, that’s just a reality of business, politics, relationships. just get with it and move on. If Kelly supported Jesus Christ I’d be cautions. Sorry if that’s a little to real for ya, just the way it is. IMO. Brentwood needs a flush of all things Kelly/Kurtz. New everything. Any idiot running for mayor in Brentwood who is so out of it that they think having Kellys endorsement is a positive thing needs to drop politics and take up playing bridge or golf or some damn thing.

      • Perhaps then you should have stepped from the shadows and run yourself.

“Good people have honest differences of opinion on critical issues. I think the goal should be to listen to and consider everyone and treat each other with respect throughout the process”.

  15. This is all so stupid! It all started because a man with a business decided to change the sign in his window…… That’s it plain and simple!

  16. We’ve got an anonymous poll going over on the Brentwood, MO Community Discussion Facebook group. Come on over and vote.

  17. It seems people have had their inclinations solidified into decisions by now. We have had disclosures on financing backgrounds, learned who best listens to the residents, and who has current in-house political clout–political strong-arming that I personally never saw coming. I do not find people’s expressing their opinions to be reduced to “mud-throwing” except to serve as a way of minimizing those opinions–which is mud-slinging, in and of itself.

I am inclined to go with who I perceive as the most honest and resident-oriented, pro-Brentwood candidate of Mark Wilson. IMO he is most balanced in his judgments regarding the priorities residents’ needs funneled to their aldermen and in truth understands the need for transparency and good communication throughout City Hall. I do not expect miracles.

I was sufficiently satisfied when both of my questions were submitted at the forum and candidate Wilson was the only one whose answer injected the resident perspective into each response. I asked about the ECDC failures, knowing that the EMS services would not be brought back to B’wd. Wilson was the only one who did not fist-pound out a “NO!” , and dealt directly with the concerns residents continue to have about emergency services.

Wilson’s responses to each question in the forum clearly spoke to the ability to listen to the concerns of the people, and respond without doing the impossible–why the ECDC question was posed. It is this free-hand, resident supported thinking of Wilson that makes him hopefully the next mayor. In the end, we need to clean house, and he continuously comes through with transparency, focused communication and truth telling of difficult issues without going behind everyone’s back. Just one opinion will not an election win. But more information and disclosure makes Wilson a favored candidate to me. No mud-slinging; just the fruits of information gathering.

  18. You are correct Brandon, nobody is talking about Toohey. The reason is because all the comments are the supporters of the other two candidates throwing mud at each other. He is candidate that has served on this contentious board of Alderman but has seemed to rise above the public character assassinations. He seems to be the one who can lead the city and put an end to the bickering.

  19. Heres an idea, how about everyone pick thier candidate and talk about why they believe that person should be mayor. I really have to question how good someones candidate is when they have to say something negative about the others. This is my biggest problem with politics today, just speak to the strengths of your choice and leave it at that. The mayoral candidates all seem to be conducting themselves professionally and respectfully. It seems to be the residents posting on this site and others that are making negative comments about what is wrong with the different candidates. People have to realize you can’t please everyone all of the time, and if they say they can you better watch out. As for the missing signs, Candidate Plufka took the high road. I offer this last bit of advice to Mr. Plufka, signs don’t vote, people vote!

  20. https://40southnews.com/brentwood-resident-reads-list-of-grievances/ search this for the original article. Re-read the list of bad behaviors perpetrated by Pat Kelly over his long reign as king. Do we really want him to be the ‘king-maker’ of this next election? Mark Wilson won with substance over style, He is authentically resident-oriented. I can’t help but wonder what else was not said about Kelly’s pressure tactics. No one was shocked more than me when I learned that Pat was demanding people “Chris Thornton is the only one you vote for.” So much for “transparency” claims by Mr. Thornton.

  21. When it comes to style over substance, Thornton took the night. He definitely came across as the nicer guy. The guy you’d “like to have a beer with”. Unfortunately this is what the past few presidential elections have come down to. I hope Brentwood voters are smarter than that.

Wilson had the substance. He seems to be the guy that will put the thought into the issues to pull this once wonderful town out of the mess. Furthermore, anybody who has met with him in person or attended one of his meet and greets will tell you that he is a very down to earth, likable guy.

Notice how nobody is talking about Toohey. I think he’s done. He sounded like he was reading off of a teleprompter the whole night.

As far as John’s comments affecting his son’s candidacy, I can only speak for myself. You are obviously his “campaign manager” of sorts. This is made obvious when his campaign facebook page and your personal page are updated almost simultaneously with the exact same post, verbatim. So even though he has his own thoughts and views, you are representing him. I can say that he has lost at least one vote, partially due to your comments. I’ve known Andy for a long time, and like and respect him very much on a personal level, but I’ve decided that Mr. Lochmoeller’s views will better represent the residents of ward 3.

    • Mr. Jones, I am very confused by your comment. You state you have known Andy for several years and that from those experiences with Andy, you have grown to respect him “very much.” I am confused then why you are withdrawing your allegiance to Andy based on comments by his father. To me it seems you would put more weight in your own experiences and interactions with the candidate than on your own dislike for some comments made by a family member of his. After all, Andy will be the one in office and voting, not his dad. I just don’t understand why some people will bring other candidates down in order to make themselves or their candidate look good? This is what is wrong with politics today and exactly why we need someone positive like Andy to run and be in office. Let’s not forget what this kind of strategy did to Auditor Tom Schweich.

    • Sorry to hear that Brandon. I do post run Andrews site on Facebook and have never hidden that and I am not his camagin manager. If you go on his page they are just informational posts like where the voting will at for Ward 3, a link to the Forum video, a what do you think question about texting. These are not my opinions just informtion for other to be informed about and give an opportuntiy to way in. I hope this election is more about that and I hope as a friend of Andrew you talk to him in person
and explain why have decided not to vote for him.

    • I, too, was favorably impressed by Chris Thornton. He’s a gifted public speaker, very at ease at the microphone the other night. And smart, too. Smart enough to never once utter the name of his friend and ally, the radioactive man who recruited him to run for mayor this year, Brentwood’s ever-scheming rascal Pat Kelly. Thornton knew better than to ‘fess up and tell the crowd that he’s Kelly’s man in this year’s race, and that, if elected, he will continue the Kurtz-Kelly Juggernaut that has ruled Brentwood with a stranglehold since 1993. This explains why Thornton blew a gasket when Mark Wilson blew his cover at the end of the debate, by revealing Kelly’s link to the Thornton campaign. I might be willing to have a beer with Thornton sometime, but there’s no way in hell I’m going to vote for him for mayor. 22 years of Kurtz-Kelly is more than any citizen should have to endure. This nightmare needs to end, once and for all, on April 7.

  22. Oh how soon you all forget. All this whining about a handful of stolen campaign signs is lame. Want a primer on Brentwood election antics…. talk to Saunders or Smith who were both harassed to a point that it was an embarrassment to the city of warmth. Dead animals left on the porch, marbles in the mail, Jamboretz and his idiotic mailers. Come on folks, the stench of the Kelly/Kurtz machine is just below the surface and will continue to influence and linger long after this election.

    • So you condone stealing as long as long the ” the Antics” are not directed at someone you support. It will be interesting how many sign were stolen when the report comes out as my information is that it was whole lot more than a handfull and signs, David Plufka, the candidate also did not press charges which he had every right to do but he took the high ground which is admirable. I thought the candidates running said they would be better than what happened in the past and look to change things for the future. It is people like you that that hurting this community and condoning dirty politics no matter what the level. By the way what is your name? Will you still be afraid to use your own name when the new mayor gets elected on April 7th and bringing up things in the past would just be tired old news.

      • Mr. Nuernberger, I suggest you push away from the keyboard. You seem to be letting your personal feelings overcome your reasoning.
I don’t think that’s reflecting well on your preferred candidates.
You completely missed the tone & meaning of the comment above yours before embarking on a thrashing of a strawman, finger pointing, and false accusations.
Give it a rest Mr. N, you’re in need of some fresh air and perspective.
Ratcheting up the enmity and making things personal don’t do us any good. You’re not the only one doing it, but that doesn’t make it right or healthy.

Disclaimer: I freely admit that I have never met you, and couldn’t pick you out of a lineup if I had to. I may be missing some important point in your comments due to unfamiliarity with you personally, but I doubt it.

    • Absolutely no one of good character condones that past intense and disgusting harassment. It was outrageous and threw a pall of stench over our entire city.

Engaging in political assignation in any form really has become disgusting. Words do hurt.

Alas ‘harmony’ is a pipe- dream.

RIP Tom Schwiech – we have yet to learn.

  23. I see what you’re saying Larry, and I can see where that might be problematic.
The larger question for me is whether or not it’s true.
Is Pat Kelly campaigning for Mr. Thornton? He does have a Thornton sign in his yard.
And if so, what does that say about Mr. Thornton?
Is he “more of the same”?
I don’t even know yet whether that’s a good or bad thing. I haven’t made up my mind on a candidate yet.
I do know that I’ve been uneasy for a couple of years now as word of some of the shenanigans at City Hall has dribbled out.
If the powers that be support Thornton, and contractors (Musick) who do business in the city support Toohey,
I think we owe it to ourselves to give Wilson a fair hearing.
I also see where Thornton is touting all the “free” services we get in Brentwood. Seriously, who told him that this stuff is “free”? Brentwood has a very highly paid city workforce. Either he isn’t too smart (doubtful) or he thinks we’re dumb enough to think that trash pickup etc. is “free”.

    Just my opinion.

  24. I thought Mark D. Wilson bringing this campaign sign issue up, after an hour of talking about issues and our future, was inappropriate and I my hope for this campaign was that it was going to be different than 3 years ago. I guess I was wrong. Up until that point the discussion was all about creating harmony in the BOA and the city and then his statement shocked the crowd as it came out of no where and all it did was to divide this communtiy further. Chris Thorton was already done with his statement and he had no opportunty to respond as this was not a debate format and I think Mark knew that.

    • My name is spelt Nuernberger and I would appreciate you getting my name right “S” Is that your real name, “S”. Your quotes seem to mirror another poster using her real name. I do not know what kind of conscience Mark as I just know him from meeting several times, I make call on my impressions on peoples actions and your saying in cap letters “be condersided truthful” that Chris is not and there was nothing in the forum that told me that.

      • S – I could not tell your gender by the anoymous S name, Is it Samual or Sally, Samatha or Sean, Stephen or Sephanie I do not know. Why do not make your name known and face some real scruntiy to your statements. As far as my son running for alderman in Brentwood, Andrew Harnett has his own opinions and his own thoughts and the fact I support him is obvious, I am his fathern and I do think he is the better Candiate in Ward 3. I would say if anyone would not support him because any statment I have made that would be unfortunate but then they probably are not someone he would not want.to be associated with anyway. As far as your other statments you make no sense at all and how would you know what i factually know. I was at the forum and my viewpoints are from personal expirience. If you like Marks statements say so and do not attack me for my views, You may know me but I do not know you. Apology accepted by misspelling my name.

      • Brian Lake Andrew was on a vacation that was planned more than a year ago way before he decided to run. He was upset at missing this forum and you are right he missed a good opportunity to campaign. He has his own opinions and if you want to he would willing to talk with anyone. As far any personal attacks at me on this 40 south I will always respect someone that posts by thier name instead of hiding behind a false indentity.

    • News flash: a divided community is fairly common in small town America, this ain’t the camp fire girls. Good people have honest differences of opinion on critical issues. So creating “:harmony” is a bit of a pipe dream. I think the goal should be to listen to and consider everyone and treat each other with respect throughout the process and then learn to live with the decision made by a majority of the people who were elected to do the job. Boys’ Hope Girls Hope, its over. Police & Fire Dispatch, its also over. City/County merger, WTF? Non starter.

  25. Let me get this straight. The guy, Wilson, who has campiagned on how “Only he can end the acrimony on the board of Alderman” and then used his final comments as a personal dig at another canidate won the debate. Not only did he take a cheap shot, but he did it at the end of the debate when he knew the other candidate would not have another chance to speak. That is the guy who won this debate?

  26. This was an excellent opportunity to engage in our democratic process and hear from all the mayoral candidates on various issues. Thank you to the LWV and the candidates for making this possible.
