Brentwood Michaels store customers may have been exposed to hackers

Customers of the Michaels store in Brentwood Square (1519 S. Brentwood Boulevard) may have been exposed to hackers due to malware found on its systems, according to a report in STLtoday.

photo(3)Michaels Stores said Thursday that about 3 million customer credit and debit cards nationally may be affected. The Brentwood store is one of more than a dozen in the St. Louis area affected.

The malware attacked a limited number of checkouts between May 8, 2013, and Jan. 27, and has since been removed.

  1. Sorry to see that having happened to you Craig. It seems that it is a sign of the times. my pc was hacked and while trying to get it back with my security service–there were three remote users at once trying to keep me from closing the “accept remote user” (logmein123.com or ammyy.com) at once. This is a real problem anymore. Craig I hope you can add a security word to all your billing accounts–because this is something the hacker could not know. Hackers are everywhere, including stores.

  2. I checked my credit card account today and sure enough there were over a thousand dollars charged to a few places we never shop. The card has been inactivated and the charges removed from the account. This will be the 3rd credit card number I’ve had in the past few months due to businesses getting hacked. Might be a good idea to start paying with cash.
