The police departments of Brentwood and Richmond Heights are part of a joint effort involving six other area departments to equip officers with body cameras, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The municipalities jointly applied for a $400,000 federal grant to equip about 260 officers with body cameras.

The Regional Justice Information System Commission (REJIS), a partnership between St. Louis city and county police departments, will oversee the effort.

Storage of data from the cameras can be expensive, and joining forces could make it more affordable for smaller forces. REJIS could become the hub for body camera video storage for the area and state. See the full post in St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
