The Brentwood School District is inviting community members to apply to serve on a steering committee aimed at updating its K-12 buildings. The invitation is below. The deadline to apply is Thursday, March 23. (40 South received this several days ago.)

Dear Brentwood Community Members,

During this school year, the Brentwood School District has extended its facilities planning to discern how we should update our K-12 buildings to meet the community’s needs now and in the future.  Last fall, the District hosted a number of meetings to collect input on a vision for the future of the educational buildings in the Brentwood community.  Many exciting ideas were shared by citizens who attended the events.

For the next stage of planning, we are inviting interested and committed members of the community from all perspectives to apply to be involved in a more focused process of making recommendations for our facilities by serving on the Facilities Steering Committee.  For management purposes, the size of the committee must be limited, and selected members of the Steering Committee should be willing to serve for a term of two years. The Steering Committee will review the work done so far and develop specific recommendations for architectural planners.  The Steering Committee will be comprised of 18 to 22 members who represent the diverse interests of the school district both as an educational institution and as an asset to the broader community.

In addition to Board members and school personnel, the committee should include parents of students representing each school level and members of the community who are not currently involved with the schools, including senior citizens.  While no specific knowledge of facilities is required, committee members with experience in related fields would be an asset to the committee.  Applicants should be available for dates reserved for the committee.  (Subcommittees may require additional meetings.)  The reserved dates include the following Thursdays:  April 20, May 11, June 8, July 27, August 24, September 14, October 12, November 9, and December 14.  Meetings will occur at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in different buildings in the district.

Your involvement in each step of the process will have a lasting effect on the Brentwood School District well into its second century of operation, and we thank you in advance for considering making an application to join this work.

To apply, please contact Kate Hastings at the Brentwood School District Administrative Office at [email protected] or by phone at 314-962-4507.

Applications are due by Thursday, March 23, 2017.  If more patrons apply than we have seats to fill, then selections will be made to ensure the broadest representation of the school district.
