J&E Office City, an anchor of downtown Maplewood for 40 years, is moving out of town, owner, Jerry Gibbs said Wednesday.

The business will be sharing space other office supply companies and a print shop in Fenton to lower their cost of doing business.

“Unfortunately the hardest part of the whole thing is moving away from Maplewood,” Gibbs said.   “Been coming down here for 40 years, it’s just going to be a little weird. But overall it’s going to be good for our business.”

Gibbs said 95 to 99 percent of their business is commercial, versus walk-in retail. He said they’ve always had retail but couldn’t survive on that alone.

J&E’s last day in Maplewood will be Dec. 2, the day of the Maplewood Christmas Tree Walk. They hope to be set up in Fenton on Dec. 5. He said all the contact information will remain the same.

Gibbs said their space in Maplewood, at 7326 Manchester Road, will be up for lease. He said it’s 1,400 square feet on the first floor and approximately 600 square feet in the basement. The building includes private parking in the back and a loading dock. Gibbs’ email address is [email protected].

  1. I’m sad to see this business move away. They were always so kind to my boys when we would visit them looking for Waldo. I’m excited about the changes in my neighborhood. I hope our new neighbors will be as nice as the staff at J & E Office City.

  2. I’ve never actually gone into the store, but my 4 year-old daughter loves seeing the awesome window displays when we go on walks. I think she spots something new every time. It will be sad to see a staple (pun intended) like this leave after so many years here.
