A resident in the 7300 block of Hazel Avenue emailed some neighbors Wednesday that her car was stolen from her driveway between 7 and 7:30 a.m. that day. She gave permission to share the story here.

“I left around 7:10 and by the time I got to work at 7:30ish, (her husband) was calling from our home phone to say the car was stolen. He had gone outside to start the car to defrost the windows. He loaded everything at that time in the car (wallet, cell phone, laptop, backpack) and then went back inside. His car is one of those where you don’t have to put a key in the ignition to start it, so thankfully, when he came back inside he had the key fob with our house key on it,” she said.

She said they heard screeching, looked outside, and saw the car leaving the driveway. She said the police arrived “immediately” and she used Find My iPhone to track the car, which was found by police near apartments next to Mac HQ ( 7120 Manchester Avenue).

She said the wallet was gone but laptop and backpack were still there. The cell phone was recovered in a trash can on Manchester Road.

“What is scary is that all of this happened shortly after I left and I saw no one on the street or walking by. But obviously someone was watching our house and watched (her husband) start up his car.

“Anyway, no one was hurt which is the main thing.”
