Maplewood council member Tim Dunn said after last night’s council meeting he decided last month to pull out of running for the Ward 2 seat he’s held for 25 years.

He said he’s always wanted diversity in the council, so, “why am I running against a woman?” He also mentioned wanting to spend more time with his family.

That leaves Eleanor Pardini now running unopposed for the Ward 2 seat.

Also, council members are now receiving resumes for the city manager job, replacing Marty Corcoran who recently announced his retirement. Corcoran said his last day working for the city will be July 14, giving his replacement plenty of time to give 30 days notice at their current job.

Maplewood Ward 2 council member Tim Dunn has decided not to run, after 25 years on the council.

  1. I will truly miss Tim Dunn on the council. He was never a worry. I can’t recall ever disagreeing with him on anything. He has been a long time friend of historic preservation. He is an all round decent fellow who cares about everyone. He is our own nationally known Vitrolite specialist whose work is on our own main street as well as scattered widely from one end of the country to the other. Finally, he is one politician who you can really believe when he says he wants to spend more time with the family. Much thanks, Tim. See you around the neighborhood.

  2. Tim: Thanks for your (more than two decades!) of public service. Maplewood is extraordinarily lucky to have such a thoughtful and dedicated leader joining the council in Mr. Dunn’s place. I have observed Dr. Pardini’s passion for the pursuit of real equity and the mindful way she fosters diversity in various endeavors. I can assure anyone who may be skeptical of her capabilities and motivations that they may rest easy!!

She is a true champion for *all* of our city’s residents and I am confident her desire to put in the work will translate into a real forward progress for Maplewood.

    • Just a question to think about. Eleanor has effectively been given this seat. My hope is for a statement on how she will use it to create diversity on the council. If she and the Hadley Dems are serious about this goal the result of her involvement should be a more diverse replacement.

      • I do realize that the comment made was by Tim Dunn. However in other meetings I have heard that diversity is a goal for her term of service

      • Hey Nancy, What do the Hadley Democrats have to do with anything? City council positions are nonpartisan. And if you want to know how Eleanor will help to encourage equity in our community, you should talk to her instead of asking thinly-veiled provocative questions on 40 South in response to a comment that wasn’t made by her.
