The first of four apartment buildings to be built on the grounds of the previous Manhassett Village, in Richmond Heights, officially broke ground on Wednesday. It’s due to be completed in 2016.

The first building will no longer be called Manhassett Village, but EVO. Draper and Kramer, of Chicago, is developing the property. The company has owned it since 1939, when it built Manhassett Village.

The $54 million four-story complex will include 281 one- and two-bedroom apartments,  sky deck, four-story parking garage and a saltwater pool.

Brentwood Forest resident Ellen Kropp came to the gathering before the ground breaking. She said so far construction noise and traffic hasn’t been bad. “It’s going to be a little,” she said. “It’s like when we lived close to the train, you get used to it.” Kropp said she’s lived in Brentwood Forest 15 years, and watched Manhassett be demolished.

  1. Why rename it? That property has always been Manhassett Village and will always be Manhassett Village to long time residents. I will never call it EVO.
