Richmond Heights City Council members on Monday voted to approve the Richmond Heights Schnucks to fill containers (growlers) brought in with beer — craft beer from local brewers. Convenience stores and gas stations that sell beer are being excluded from filling containers.

Two representatives from Schnucks were at the meeting to answer questions about filling the containers, and there were none. Outside the meeting, when asked if they knew anything about the possibility of Schnucks moving into the former Shop ‘n Save location in Maplewood, one said only, “No comment.”

City officials also had the first readings toward approving the city of Richmond Heights entering into an agreement with the city of Brentwood to transport and provide prisoner confinement for the city of Brentwood. There was no discussion.

The Mid County Chamber of Commerce board second vice-president, Jennifer Ridgeway, told the council the chamber will be moving its office from  Sutton Boulevard to the former J&E Office City location. She said after the meeting that the office will be on the second floor. Chateau Maplewood is working toward opening a wine bar on the street-level shop.

The city also swore in a new police officer, Nicholas VanDenBosch, who has graduated from the police academy, and a four-year college, which the city requires.

Nicholas VanDenBosch is sworn in as a Richmond Heights police officer. Chief Doug Schaeffler is center. VanDenBosch’s brother, an employee of the city of O’Fallon, MO, is on the left.
