The St. Louis chapter of Sisters in Crime has announced that The Book House, of Maplewood, MO, has been awarded $250 from Sisters in Crime as part of their “We Love Bookstores” initiative.

Members of the St. Louis chapter of Sisters in Crime will be on hand when the bookstore receives its check for $250 to be used in the promotion of books. The presentation will be held on July 29 at the St. Louis County Public Library, at 1640 S. Lindbergh Boulevard, St. Louis, MO. Sara Paretsky, founder of Sisters in Crime, will present the check just before her 7 p.m. reading.

Michelle Barron, owner of The Book House, said the award will go to renovating the store’s new space for events, workshops, and book signings. “Books, reading and literature is a community effort. We are all about creating a space to share and create ideas and stories.” Barron said. “Thank you!”

Fedora Amis, president of the Greater St. Louis chapter said, “St. Louis Sisters and misters are delighted that a local bookstore is a national winner.” Amis is author of Jack the Ripper in St. Louis, set in 1897 Missouri.

“Bookstores are the vital bloodline from authors to readers. Without bookstore owners’ knowledge and passion for books, writers and readers might never get together. It’s a sincere privilege to honor booksellers,” Amis said.
