Open carry is allowed only with a valid conceal carry permit. Council member, Barry Greenberg asked City Manager Marty Corcoran how this law would affect a private business that wants to keep guns out. Corcoran said that would probably be determined by the courts in the future.

At the Maplewood City Council meeting Tuesday officials also approved:

  • A resolution to submit an an application for a grant from the Municipal Parks Grant Commission for improvements to Kellogg Park (dog park location).
  • A resolution to accept a bid of $31,172 for Yale Park improvements, replacing the existing playground equipment and surfacing.
  • A conditional use permit for a hair salon at 2100 Bellevue Avenue.

In a work session that followed the regular meeting, at the request of Mayor Jim White, officials reviewed possible updates to the city charter, passed in 1976. White and City Manager Marty Corcoran had made a list, which Corcoran went through for the council.

Among other ideas, Corcoran suggested changing council member term limits from four years with no term limits, to three 3-year terms.

Half the council would run one year, half the next year, and the third year of the rotation the mayor’s seat would be up. If a council member filed for the mayor’s job, he or she would have give up their council seat.
