Shops set records on Small Business Saturday

Employees at several independent businesses in Maplewood said sales during Small Business Saturday (the Saturday following Thanksgiving) was as good or much better than last year, or any other day.Karen Smith, an employee at Get the WORD Out (7405 Manchester Road), said the store better than doubled its sales for any day in its history. The shop is a non-profit that helps to pay for care and school fees for kids in Kenya. It opened this year in Maplewood.

Employees at 0ther stores, such as Great Harvest Bakery, La Cosecha Coffee and The Book House (all in the 7300 block of Manchester) also said sales on the day were at least as good as last year’s Small Business Saturday.

They’re all looking forward to a busy Maplewood Christmas Tree Walk, on Friday evening.

Get the WORD Out employee Karen Smith said Small Business Saturday more than doubled the store’s all time one-day record for sales.
The Book House employee Mark Gould said business for Small Business Saturday this year was at least as good as the year before.

  1. that’s great news. i didn’t know that Get the Word Out was a non-profit with a humanitarian mission. i’ve enjoyed poking around and finding interesting stuff.
