Maplewood Ward 3 resident, Steve Terelmes, has picked up a petition to run for the city council seat that will become open when current Ward 3 council member Barry Greenberg is sworn in as the new mayor of Maplewood. Terelmes sent information about himself to 40 South.

Terelmes describes himself as a proponent of businesses, schools and municipal services, and wants to make sure the residents aren’t left out of the vision for the city’s future.

Ways Terelmes would like to see Maplewood support its residents:

  • Expand quality elderly housing in Maplewood so elderly residence have an option to move from a house to a nice condo or facilitated living without having to leave the area
  • Encourage sufficient housing stock to enable continued steady growth of new families into Maplewood ensuring that our recently built-out schooling infrastructure does not suddenly become unnecessary
  • Encourage communication with Maplewood residents. Holding periodic town hall meetings for residents to express their ideas or concerns
  • Continue to support the development of Maplewood’s infrastructure. Redoing roads, insisting utility companies keep their infrastructure updated and in good working order
  • Encouraging the walkability and bikability of the downtown. Building strong connections from Maplewood to city bike trails

How Terelmes would like to see Maplewood continue to develop in our businesses core

  • Continue to grow the large business tax base on the west side of Maplewood
  • Encourage boutique shops to continue to come into the downtown area.
  • Make Maplewood a boutique Mecca, unique throughout all Saint Louis
  • Bring a small theater to downtown Maplewood for plays and musical events.
  • Build a vision for downtown Maplewood to be a destination spot for weekend vacationers all around Missouri and Illinois
