The Blue Devils persevered through a 6-6 tie after regulation time to win 12-6 in overtime. MRH’s record stands at 2-2.

Coach JC Kime said last week’s forfeit could easily have been a distraction, but not with this team.

“The majority of teams would have folded up shop and that’s it, but these kids are different. They never quit.” he said.

MRH went up 6-0 early in the second half. Normandy tied it with 2:59 on the clock. The remainder of regulation time included turnovers on both sides, including an MRH interception and a fumble (argued unsuccessfully by Kime that the MRH runner was down when the ball came out) and a goal line stand for MRH to keep the score tied.

In overtime, MRH took the ball from the 25 (per MSHSAA rules) and finally scored on a Kareem Harry run around the end. The Blue Devils held Normandy to four downs and won.

Coach Keith Herring told STL Today, “I lost my mom (Friday) and these guys kind of dedicated the game to her,” Herring said. “It was an emotional win for us.”
