On Feb. 10 members of the Maplewood Richmond Heights Board of Education held a town hall meeting for about 40 parents on Proposition Y, to be on the ballot on April 5. Parents were also given an update on the early childhood center construction. The first part of the project is a new parking lot on the land acquired from Volvo, which has begun.

Funds for the construction come from the passing of Proposition K in April 2015.

The kindergarten classrooms in the present early childhood center and all interior renovations will occur during the summer of 2017.

The overall timeline as presented at the Feb. 10 meeting:

  • Feb 2016: begin work on newly acquired land (Volvo lot), prepare site, new parking area
  • October 2016: begin construction of the addition to the preschool
  • Summer 2017: renovate classrooms/hallways
  • Aug 2017: project completion with 2nd grade starting at the ECC

These renderings were shown at the meeting.
