Maplewood Richmond Heights senior pitcher, Zech Biship capped off a district-winning season, pitching the last innings for his team in the Delta Dental High School All-Star Game at Busch Stadium on June 25.

MRH coach, Jonathan Webb, said Biship was scheduled to pitch the last three innings of the nine-inning game, and ended up going into the tenth. He said it was a great honor for Biship and well-deserved.

“He certainly performed, I would say, better than any other pitcher for either team that day,” Webb said. “He got stretched out a little bit, going nearly four innings. He went three and two thirds, allowed two hits, one run, and struck out four.”

Webb said Biship kept the game close, but with two outs in the tenth, tied 5-5, there was a bloop double to right, then Jake Toby from Affton got a bloop single to right field that got the one-up for the other team.

“We always knew he could do it at Maplewood, but it was great to see him do it with a lot more eyes on him, and to see him perform on a big stage like that,” Webb said.

“It was amazing!” Biship said through Facebook. “I did good I think. Gave up the winning run on a bloop single but it’s all good. It was an experience to last a life time.”

Webb said the team is already looking forward to next year.

“We lost a few key guys, but everybody always loses key guys. It’s the nature of high school baseball,” he said. “We’ve always felt like out talent has been pretty well-distributed between four classes. We’ve got holes to fill, but guys will do that, and we’re looking forward to what our new freshman coming in will be able to offer us.”
