An unassisted Bombers goal in the second half gave Burroughs a 1-0 win against MRH in the Class 2 District 4 final at Burroughs’ Beckman Field.

“Admittedly, they took it to us for a better part of the game,” MRH head coach Ryan Robertson said. “We came out with a lot of energy the second half. We needed that. Effort was fantastic, and then, inevitably, they’re human. They got tired. Fatigue started to set in — that’s when the break happened.”

“Last year we played them to a close game as well so knew this was coming,” he said. “They’re a talented team, we’re a talented team.”

The Bombers ended the Blue Devils season last year too, defeating them 1-0 in the first bracket of post-season play.

“It’s tough to see the seniors lose. This was one of the best seasons in school history so you would hope for it to turn out a little bit better,” Robertson said. “That’s a quality team, and that’s how it breaks.”

Robertson said he loved having the MRH side of the stands full of cheering supporters the entire game.

“Maplewood came out to support — that was a beautiful thing,” he said. “All season it’s been excellent, but tonight when we needed it they were there. That’s a good thing for the players to see, for me as an alumni to see.”

The Blue Devils season ended with 20 wins and 6 loses. This was the second season for head coach Ryan Robertson.
