The Maplewood Richmond Heights School District Board of Education on Thursday agreed to ask voters to approve $30 million dollars in bond sales to pay for brick-and-mortar improvements district-wide, MRH reported. The request does not require a change in the current tax rate in order to repay the bonds.

“Proposition E” will appear on the April 7, 2020, election ballot. A 4/7ths majority of “yes” votes is required for passage. The text of Prop-E is as follows:

“Shall the Board of Education of the School District of Maplewood Richmond Heights, St. Louis County, Missouri borrow money in the amount of $30,000,000 for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, renovating, expanding, improving, furnishing and equipping school sites, buildings and related facilities, including safety and security upgrades, construction of a new middle school/high school gym and renovations and expansion of the middle school/high school cafeteria, and issue general obligation bonds for the payment thereof? If this proposition is approved, the adjusted debt service levy of the school district is anticipated to remain unchanged at $1.35 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.”

Now through late March, MRH will host three Town Hall gatherings to brief citizens on the expected needs at each campus. Each Town Hall will feature presentations by members of the Board of Education. Principals from all buildings will attend each session, as will representatives from Ittner Architects, MRH’s partner in the needs assessment process.
