The owner of 2808 Sutton Boulevard, David Schlafly, of Schlafly Corporation, is holding a naming contest for the building.

The space is the north end of the building that first housed Bettendorf’s Supermarket, and most recently the Black Cat Theatre. So far, Bridges has signed a lease for part of it. No lease is signed for the front space, which faces Sutton.

Schlafly is offering $200 to the person who comes up with the name.

Please submit name ideas by midnight July 31 to August Schlafly at [email protected].

The Sierra Club has signed a lease for the south end of the building; Bridges will be in the space next to that, and also operate The Living Room, a coffee shop at the north end.

  1. The Spanish Revival original section on the south end already has a name, the Cape-Harper building, named for and by the builders, Dr. Leander Cape and his son-in-law, William Harper.
