Operator of Maplewood home childcare charged following death of child

A woman who ran a home childcare in Maplewood has been charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child 1st Degree (Class A Felony, due to the death of a child), and six counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child 1st Degree (Class D Felony).

Maplewood Police announced the charges on Monday:

On 11/16/2018 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Maplewood Police detectives commenced an investigation regarding the death of a three month old female in the 3600 block of Cambridge.

Relative to this investigation, the toxicology report pertaining to suspect Laura Minnick, as well as the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s report was recently completed.

These reports, accompanied by the findings of this investigation were presented to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. A warrant was issued for one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child 1st Degree (Class A Felony), and six counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child 1st Degree (Class D Felony). Minnick is not currently in police custody, but is expected to surrender to authorities today. Bond was set at $50,000.

The members of the Maplewood Police Department continue to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim, and ask all members of the community to join us in keeping them in your prayers and thoughts.
