Rev. Rebecca Turner, pastor at Christ Church UCC in Maplewood, is sheltering immigrant Alex Garcia in the church. The goal is to have a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official issue a stay of removal, allowing Garcia to return home to his family in southeast Missouri. On October 26 Turner and others successfully filed the papers with ICE — the first step.

Turner reported on the event on Facebook.

  1. I am so thankful for this pastor who stands up, and fights. I am proud, proud, proud, and thankful, thankful, thankful. As regards Alex, I think, “There, but for the grace of God, go I”. Thanks so much for this story. I hope you will keep us readers informed with updates.

    • You need something to do. Maybe you could really be the change you want to see by becoming a leader or some kind with all your wisdom.

  2. Thank you so much for being a true Christian community. How anyone at ICE can simply say “I don’t care” about another human being is beyond me. They would turn away Jesus.

  3. Thank you to Reverend Turner and the congregation of the Christ Church UCC! THIS is what community looks like!
