Police reported that a pedestrian received minor injuries in an accident Friday afternoon near MRH High School. It was soon after Maplewood Richmond Heights school district was let out early due to the snow.

Resident, Rona Chandler, told 40 South on Monday she saw it happen. She said a young driver’s car skidded and hit a woman and child.

Chandler said: “I was driving on Rannells Avenue to pick up my daughter from the high school, and saw a kid (I presume a high schooler), try to go around a car that was stopped across from two parked cars.  As he was doing this a woman and elementary aged child were crossing the street. The kid’s white car started to skid as he hit hit brakes and he hit both of them and then slid into one of the parked cars. The pedestrians both seemed unharmed at the time as I called 911.”

It’s not known yet if the driver was an MRH student.

  1. Was the high school let out early? Because I know my granddaughter who goes to the elementary school and my grandson who goes to ECC came home at normal times and if that’s the case, why was it only high school that dismissed early?

  2. I wonder if there shouldn’t be a policy change for the high school. By the time they release a 16, 17 and 18 year old drivers, the roads had really deteriorated. Had they released a little earlier there probably wouldn’t have been an accident at all.
