The Post-Dispatch reported on Wednesday about a robbery on in Maplewood Tuesday night that resulted in a crash and two men in custody (one had shot himself) — over a pair of stolen Air Jordans.

The alleged victim told police he met three men in the 2200 block of Yale Avenue in to sell one of them a pair of new Nike Air Jordans, St. Louis police told the Post-Dispatch.

The suspects got out of their car and got into the backseat of the victim’s car. One of them pulled a gun on him, then they took the shoes and ran back to their car. The armed man shot himself in the leg as they ran.

They took off, and the victim chased them into St. Louis, where both cars crashed at Olive and Compton at around 7:30 p.m. police told the Post-Dispatch. No one was injured. Both drivers stayed at the scene, the two alleged robbers ran off.

The suspect who shot himself stopped at a restaurant to ask for help and was later taken to a hospital. No gun was found with him.

  1. hmmm…make sure you fix up that Yale shelter. Maybe this sale of Air Jordans would have went a different way.
