40 South News received an unsolicited photo on Monday of a large (almost four feet tall) toy pony at the corner of Lowry Street and Moller Avenue with a description of how it (“she”) “magically appeared one day,” and that it’s been a “cheery addition to Maplewood in these uncertain and troubling times,” plus more.

Hello Doug: Retired Show Pony, Choo-Choo Larue, has recently taken up residence in Maplewood at the corner of Lowry Street and Moller Avenue. She magically appeared one day last week and has been stoically on-point near the R/R tracks every and night to the delight of the neighborhood (especially the kids). Andrew, a neighborhood admirer likes checking on her from his window. Some of us have taken to grooming her and picking her up after a high wind. And magically, drivers turning the corner are more cautious of late, texting much less and slowing down to admire her. Choo-Choo has been a cheery addition to Maplewood in these uncertain and troubling times.

  1. “I always had long legs. When I was young, I used to think, ‘Why do I look like a little pony?’ ~Tina Turner

“I could always dance and neigh and sing at rodeos, I used to think, `Why don’t I look like Tina Turner?” ~Choo Choo Larue

  2. Choo Choo Larue (darling name ?) is charming and brings back wonderful memories living on Moller Avenue and enjoying the neighborhood with our children and Andrew’s Mommy! ❤️

  3. Dig it….. And I agree ponies are better than speed bumps. Sad that we need speed bumps..why people cannot obey the speed limits is beyond my comprehension :)(:

  4. “And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” ~Roald Dahl

  5. If she is causing traffic to slow down, making people pay attention maybe we could install ponies around town instead of speed humps on the street.

  6. Careful, though…Choo Choo moved her head from left to right when I was walking my dog, Henry, there on Sunday. Henry jumped back, then charged at the pony, but don’t let her scare you.
