Richmond Heights man charged following crash that killed father of two

A Richmond Heights man has been charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter and driving on a revoked license.

James E. Hughes, 53, of the 7700 block of Weston Place had more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he drove the wrong way on Interstate 170 in University City on January 10, causing a crash that killed a father of two, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Hughes was driving the wrong way on southbound 170 about 2:40 a.m. when he crossed three lanes of traffic and hit an oncoming Honda driven by Collin Loveless, 26, of Maryland Heights, according to the Post-Dispatch.

Hughes was charged on June 17; his bail was set at $50,000. Hughes’ criminal history stretches more than 20 years according to the Post-Dispatch.
