Following a 10-month project, a paved path will connect Slay Park in Ellendale to the northern end of the existing River Des Peres Greenway.

Beginning Monday, traffic on Ellendale and  Wabash avenues will be reduced to one northbound and one southbound lane between Lansdowne and Canterbury avenues as part of work to extend the River Des Peres Greenway 1.8 miles north from Lansdowne to Francis R. Slay Park, according to Great Rivers Greenway, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has reported.

“When the greenway is finished, people will be able to walk, ride a bike, push a stroller or use a wheelchair completely separate from traffic, all the way from the new neighborhood greenway at Arsenal and McCausland to Lemay and Carondelet parks,” said Angelica Gutierrez, Great Rivers Greenway project manager, in a statement.

  1. I am so excited about this! I like to bike, walk, and run the greenway, and the area that they are now connecting had been the trickiest part to navigate to get to the greenway. I am really looking forward to the completion of this awesome project.

  2. This is my favorite route as it is fairly flat, it’s scenic (when the River isn’t stinky) and usually has little traffic. They are also working on the connection between the end of the River Des Peres bicycle path and Jefferson Barracks at the casino which allows for unrestricted travel to the Barracks, Sylvan Springs Park and the Cemetery.
