A Missouri state law establishes the Back-To-School Sales Tax Holiday during a three-day period beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in August and ending at midnight on the following Sunday. This year it’s August 1, 2, and 3.

Purchases of clothing, school supplies, computers, and certain other items are exempt from sales tax for the weekend.

See the Missouri Department of Revenue website for FAQs.

  1. I was looking for alternative cities to shop in for school supplies (where they do honor the tax free weekend) since the above list includes most of the places I shop are in the list above. Here are a few that I found by comparing the Wikipedia list of cities in the St. Louis area to the complete list of cities opting out: Ballwin, Crestwood, Creve Coeur, Glendale, Hanley Hills, Maryland Heights, Olivette, Sunset Hills. Happy shopping!

  2. Thank the Good Lord! The sales taxes are out of control. We are (Br&Ma) upwards of 10% . And vote NO on Prop 7, because the state will complete the project but NOT rescind the TAX—you’ll be used to paying for it.
