Speaker John O’Leary inspires St. Mary Magdalen students to be ‘Heroes’

Students at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic School in Brentwood welcomed St. Louis-native John O’Leary and heard his inspirational life story this week.

O’Leary survived being burned on 100 percent of his body when he was nine years old. At the time, he was given a 1 percent chance of survival.

His lecture revolved around the ‘heroes’ he encountered because of this experience. He encouraged the students to ask themselves, “What more can I do?” O’Leary told them that they can be heroes too, and reminded them to make wise decisions.
