With Einstein Bros. Bagels replacing the previous Applegate’s Deli, 1912 S. Brentwood Boulevard is now fully back in operation; Einstein Bros. opened Monday, and Dickey’s Barbecue Pit opened last week.Co-owner Mike Patel wanted to open in spring 2014, but a car running into the store in December 2013 put work behind schedule. The only other Dickey’s in the area is in Valley Park, according to its website. Other Einstein Bros.
Mike Patel, a co-owner of the business at 1912 S. Brentwood Boulevard, which was once Applegate’s Deli, soon to be an Einstein Bros. Bagels, said work is going well and the opening should be in less than a month. Dickey’s BBQ, in the building previously, will remain when it reopens.
As new co-owner Mike Patel told 40 South News in December, a new Einstein Bros. Bagels restaurant will be replacing Applegate’s, in Brentwood at at 1912 S. Brentwood Boulevard. Brothers Mike and Dinod Patel, along with nephew Raj Patel, are gutting the space, according to the St. Louis Business Journal. Dickie’s Barbeque Pit, which shared the building with Applegate’s, will remain.
Applegate’s Deli owner Mike Patel said Wednesday that he did not know when the restaurant will reopen after being hit by a car on Dec. 30. The front entrance, the awning and a planter were damaged when a car left the road. The entrance is now covered by plywood. Patel also had no details about how the car left the road and hit the building.
A car left the road and ran into the front entrance of Applegate’s Deli during the Monday p.m. rush hour. A Brentwood police officer said
the large shattered planter made it look worse than it really was. There were no injuries.
Applegate’s Deli, in Brentwood (1912 S. Brentwood Boulevard), is on its way out, with an Einstein Bros. Bagels taking its place. Applegate’s has been “Proudly serving St. Louis for 25 years” according to its website. Owner Mike Patel said on Friday that Applegate’s run is over, and he’s giving it a try with an Einstein Bros.
