Maplewood ice cream to face off with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

When Susan Spitz, of Maplewood, was getting her ice cream business, One World Ice Cream (then called World’s Fare), off the ground last February, she says people told her if she could make ice cream as good as Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, “You’ll be golden.”

Jeni’s is out of Columbus, OH, and is sold locally. Spitz has been selling One World Ice Cream at farmers markets. Last month Spitz planned a blind tasting event between One World Ice Cream and Jeni’s at Local Harvest Café on Wednesday. Not long after that, Jeni’s announced a store opening in the Central West End next year. Spitz said the timing surprised her.
