A Brentwood resident gave a shout-out to ‘Kim’ at Brentwood Public Works recently for being responsible for getting a BPW truck out to pick up a many-days-dead opossum. The resident’s post on Nextdoor:

Shout out to Kim in Brentwood Public Works! There was a big, dead opossum in the middle of our street. Bless its heart. I started calling around to find out who could come pick up and dispose of the furry victim. It took many calls, people telling someone else to call, people telling me they would send someone out to take care of the situation, nobody taking care of the situation. Sunday. Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday. Nothing. Dead opossum still in street. Finally, I connected with Kim at Brentwood Public Works explained the situation. I pleaded with her to get someone to take care of the opossum. She said she would take care of it. Less than 30 minutes passed and there was a BPW truck out there removing the opossum. Thank you, Kim! You rock! Rest in peace, opossum.

  1. Is it illegal to pick up a dead possum that is in the street and toss it into your own trash container and have it hauled away by the waste disposal company? Think about it. They will be picking up hundreds of turkey carcasses this next week. Sure it was cooked and the meat eaten off it but things like that can go into the trash can.

If it was there for 4 days and bothering you I am wondering why you didn’t grab a shovel, a trash bag and scoop it up and toss it into your trash can.

    • Rethinking my post. The original post was to show that someone at Brentwood Public Works took care of the issue and should be noted and thanked. I do appreciate that someone responded and took care of it for you. Nice to hear that the city people did that for you.

      • No harm in your first post, I was thinking it too. I pick up dead possums and squirrels in the street on my walks and place them under bushes. Yeah it’s not a pleasant job but better than seeing a mangled animal for weeks in the street.
