Here’s a rundown of some things in progress — some years in the works, others just months.

Tapped restaurant — In September Maplewood officials approved a permit for Tapped, a restaurant with the iPourIt tap control pour system for the former Pizza Story location (7278 Manchester Road). It’s been quiet there since then. Building owner Rob Birenbaum said Thursday the deal for Tapped (Ryan and Lindsay Reel, of Richmond Heights) to purchase A Pizza Story’s assets closed a couple weeks ago; he expects work to start soon.

Craft Beer Cellar — Maplewood officials approved a Craft Beer Cellar location in September. After a delay, the word in the Clayton shop now is that they’re now optimistic about opening a second location, but aren’t saying where.

Former QuikTrip location — The building (3010 S. Big Bend Boulevard) was sold to 3010 Big Bend LLC Nov. 23, 2015 for $1,115,000 according to county records. QuikTrip real estate manager Alan Renner said at the time a laundromat was planned. City Manager Marty Corcoran has no additional information.

Metro on Manchester apartments — Brentwood officials in August approved Gary Hassenflu of Garrison Companies to build apartments at Manchester and Hanley roads. A Brentwood building official said he’s seen no plans – “nothing” — since then. Brentwood alderman, Steve Lochmoeller said he’s heard that Hassenflu is securing financing.

Boland Place apartments — In February 2016 Richmond Heights officials approved an apartment complex at Dale and Boland. The sale to developer, Joseph Cyr, has gone through and the project is on track, according to the Richmond Heights building department.

The Blue Duck, and more, at Manchester and Sutton — The Blue Duck (Washington, MO) owners plan to open their second location here (7401 Manchester), opening in January. More is planned for the corner building, but not disclosed. Also, a worker at the site said when renovating the building, originally a Katz drug store built in 1940, they discovered segregated restrooms in the basement.

Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers — If you haven’t heard, the construction site on the southwest corner of Manchester and Big Bend is a planned Raising Cain’s Chicken Fingers. It’s due to be completed in March or April.

Side Project Brewing is open — The brewery’s tasting room (7458 Manchester Road) opened to the public on Sunday, Dec. 18. Its hours are noon to 7 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday (but not New Year’s Day).

  1. Thanks for the update. I doubt any bank will finance that hideous ill conceived apartment ghetto at Hanley and Manchester. Happy New Year!

  2. Thanks for the follow ups. Hopefully that apartment complex on corner of Manchester and Hanley will fall through and disappear into oplivion. Terrible place to live on that corner with the traffic and street noise!

  3. Joe hits the nail on the head…BUNGLED. I hope, for our community, CBC does, in fact, choose Maplewood as a second location, despite the mess our ill-informed, outgoing mayor & other mistaken council members made of this opportunity for Maplewood.

  4. Nice summary. Thanks for following up on these Doug!
In regards to the craft beer cellar, I’m hopeful they still choose MW but not naive. This business would find success in the Grove, CWE, or Kirkwood as well. I suppose that after it was initially bungled here they looked elsewhere and found a warm reception and now are deciding between two locations.

    • CBC will not open a new location in Maplewood. They’re probably trying to determine their next steps, given that a funder pulled out and changed their original plan. It had nothing to do with the process they went through at Maplewood city hall.
