Wash U hires MRH grad as assistant soccer coach

Maplewood Richmond Heights graduate, Randi Simmons, has been hired as the women’s full-time assistant coach soccer coach at Washington University in St. Louis, the university announced Tuesday.

Simmons spent the past two seasons as an assistant women’s soccer coach at NCAA Division II Chico State University, where she focused on midfielders. The team had a 12-5-2 overall record in 2014 and 2015.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Randi Simmons joining the WashU Women’s Soccer family,” head women’s soccer coach Jim Conlon said. “Randi is an unbelievable coach. She understands how to help women grow on and off the field, and is a tremendous role model with an innate drive to win.”

Simmons worked as a communications and media relations intern for five months in 2013 for the MLS Champion Sporting Kansas City, and also spent seven months as communications and media intern for NSCAA from August 2013-February 2014.

“I am absolutely thrilled to officially join the Washington University family,” Simmons said. “Coach Conlon has built an exceptional program with a strong tradition of success on and off the field. It is truly an honor to call myself a Bear and work with this extraordinary group of student-athletes.”

At MRH, Simmons was a first-team all-conference selection, where she earned the team’s Offensive Player of the Year award three times and led the Blue Devils to a pair of conference championships. She holds several school records, including single game and single season goals, career goals and career points.

At the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Simmons appeared in 72 matches as a midfielder. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in entrepreneurship from the university in 2013.
