Happy Sunday Debate Team! The team competed at Ritenour High School this weekend for the third tournament in the conference series. Students earned awards not only at this tournament, but all-conference awards were announced based on performance all season. It was an exciting weekend!

The following students were recognized for awards at Conference Tournament 3:

Radio Speaking — Meghan Haug – 3rd place GSL All – Conference Award

Humorous Interpretation: Hank Wall – 1st place, Ben Haug – 6th place

Prose Interpretation: Lindsey Trieu – 4th place

Storytelling: Ben Haug – 3rd place

The following students earned new degrees in the NSDA after their performance this weekend: Contessa Smith: Degree of Honor, Madhumathi Vijayalingam: Degree of Excellence

For the third year in a row, Brentwood High School had students receive conference awards. We are so proud of Meghan for her show of dominance in Radio Speaking all season! We also had students that performed exceptionally well at this individual tournament. Hank Wall walked away with his best finish of the season, earning first place in Humorous Interpretation.

Hank helped add to the growing first place finishes for Brentwood this year. Hank’s was the 8th time that BHS Debate walked away with the top award in an event! Ben also advanced and earned awards in both of his events for the second weekend in a row. This time, he was earning both awards against varsity members as a freshman! And Lindsey earned her first prose award of the year, also going against varsity members in her first year. Because our school is so small, we often send our novices up against varsity competitors at these tough conference tournaments, and they have certainly shown they are up to the task!

We are traveling next weekend to Jefferson City for the Capital Classic Invitational. The tournament will be large and very competitive. I am looking forward to watching our young team learn and grow in their performances next weekend!
