Chicago man arrested for identity theft and forgery in iPhone transaction at Galleria

Chavezz Campbell, 27, of Chicago, IL, was charged with identity theft and forgery in the  fraudulent purchase of three iPhones at the AT&T store and Best Buy mobile store at the St. Louis Galleria on Dec. 12, 2016, according to court and police records.

When purchasing the phones from Best Buy, Campbell had provided what looked like a Virginia driver’s license, with his photograph, but the name, date of birth and address of the account holder, and had also provided the account holder’s social security number.

The following day Campbell was arrested in Des Peres after executing a similar transaction on the same customer’s account. He was identified from a photo lineup by the employee who had conducted the transaction at Best Buy. One of the three phone purchased at Best Buy was found in his possession when he was arrested in Des Peres.
