Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, who grew up in Ballwin and was baptized at Immaculate Conception Church in Maplewood, returned to the church Sunday to say mass and later to baptize a great nephew.
Among regular parishioners, were some who came because Dolan was considered for pope last year. Nick Simmons, now of St. Louis, said he served mass for Dolan at Little Flower Church in Richmond Heights when he was a child.
The church lot filled early, and folks were allowed to park at the Schlafly Bottleworks. A Maplewood police officer served as usher at the front door and other officers were outside the church.
