The fire in Maplewood Sunday that destroyed a 4-flat on Greenwood Boulevard destroyed the belongings of a family with Maplewood Richmond Heights connections. A friend posted a GoFundMe to raise funds to help them out.

From the GoFundMe:

This past Sunday in the heart of Maplewood, the home of Jon, Sonya and Carson caught on fire while they were only a few blocks away celebrating Sonya’s birthday.

Many in our community witnessed their home fully ablaze (10 year old Carson’s room is pictured fully engulfed) and thankfully all residents in the four family building got out safely.

By the time they were able to return home the family joined others across the street in total shock as they watched the final fire trucks leave behind their own smoldering building.

The fire was believed to be started accidentally on the back lower level porch and unfortunately the family lost everything!

    • Dave, I don’t know if you are aware of this, but renter’s insurance isn’t cheap these days. It may seem inexpensive to someone who can afford to pay a lot more per month than the rent was on that apartment, but when the choice comes down to whether you can afford auto and life insurance or renter’s insurance, renter’s insurance seems like yet another expense coming between you and eating.
