Ronald Seay, a 56-year-old man accused of shooting a librarian in Sacramento CA earlier this week, was was belligerent and refused to leave the Brentwood Public Library in September, KSDK reported.

Brentwood Police officers arrested Seay, and tried to get him psychologically committed for 96 hours, but a judge denied that request.

“Within 24 hours, a judge has to review the case and sign off to allow it to stay or they can say there’s not sufficient enough evidence and decline it,” Dr. Marva Robinson, a clinical psychologist, told KSDK. That’s what happened with Seay’s case.

Robinson also said the Brentwood library could have filed a restraining order against Seay, which would have provided some protection and it started to establish a paper trail

  1. It takes about 2 minutes for a mentally unimpaired person to work up an NGBRMD defense. That person can do ANYthing, anywhere, if for no other reason than bolstering the position of not guilty in the court. IMO this coward chooses places where people go to engage their minds, free from intrusion. (NO VICTIMS expect it…) I believe drugs and NOT genetic mental aberrations drive people to criminal acts. You have no idea how easy it is for a con-person to persuade the general populous that *s’he is crazy by saying outrageous things. It happens all the time. Thank God we have a police presence and intelligent City Employees–who recognize what they are seeing. HOW DID HE GET OUT OF CA? ON a murder charge? BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. If you see something that really does not look right, or a person claiming the venus mothership will be invading us—–DO NOT BE SHY ABOUT SPEAKING UP. I do not believe our citizens are cowards by any means. BUT they may feel “it’s beyond my scope of influence.” i personally have been involved in at least 6 different occasions that never rose to a criminal offense. BUT the police were involved each time because i knew the “business was not finished.” This happened 3x in NO, 4x in NY, and only once in b’wood. TEACH people to distinguish a problem cultivating, from someone who had a “bad day at work” All you have to do is stand back and observe. Police Problems and people who are in serious trouble ALWAYS escalate “Bad day at work” would be calming down with direct attention. I know i sound preachy, but i don’t give a whatever. Bad people ALWAY throw up some kind of red flag. “Bad day at the office” is entirely different. RAGE is left at the door and only frustration remains. I do not believe this guy is psychotic. How did he get to MO from CA? How did he so effectively evade any known blips on the radar of regular guys and the police? And choosing libraries? I don’t believe he need “help” as much as he needs incarceration. THE END….

  2. He was also seen in the Ferguson library, where he also caused a disturbance when he accused the staff of stealing his wallet: https://bit.ly/2S8tV97

Restraining orders can only do so much. In fact, I believe he had a restraining order from the Sacramento library. What’s really scary about this, if I am following the timeline right, is that he was issued that order in mid-October, and evidently nursed a grudge for 2 months before acting on it. I always tell my staff to be sure that the police are there at closing time if they have any unpleasantness with a visitor that day, but who thinks you need to provide an escort 2 months after the fact?
