A Maplewood Richmond Heights High School group formed this year called Student Group on Race Relations has attracted local and national media attention, in light of the unrest in Ferguson.

The racial makeup of Maplewood-Richmond Heights High School’s 350 students is about 47 percent white, 40 percent black and 4 percent Hispanic, according to a report on the group in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The students talk about how to talk with each about race respectfully, so they can model that for their fellow students.

“We’ve kind of broken down some barriers with kids who might not otherwise talk to each other,” Principal Kevin Grawer told the Post-Dispatch.

Now the group will be featured on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition, on Dec. 1, according to the MRH Twitter feed (@MRH_Schools), as well as Principal Kevin Grawer (@kgrawer), which reports that Grawer will be on the Monday morning show.
