Maplewood Richmond Heights fourth-grader Sadie Tanner represented MRH on April 18 at the University of Missouri’s Creating Original Music Project, singing a song she wrote, accompanied by her father on guitar. Her song, Springtime, took second.

The purpose of the project is to encourage K-12 students in Missouri to write original music in a variety of musical styles, and then and to present the pieces to their schools and at a music festival at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Tanner’s father wasn’t at home when she sang her piece for 40 South News so she accompanied herself. Her mother, Kristin Tanner, said Sadie has been playing guitar about a month and a half.
