A Maplewood resident on Sunday saw a partial circle of mushrooms at the old American Legion Hall on Sutton Boulevard.
The naturally occurring circle or arc of mushrooms is also known as fairy circle, elf circle, elf ring or pixie ring, according to Wikipedia.
He said he had heard of them but never seen one, so he took a picture.
How cool! After I cut down a tree in my back yard, I had some dead man’s fingers (another mushroom) that appeared. Slightly odd, but also interesting.
I can imagine the little pixies dancing among the mushrooms. Beautiful!
Could be because there used to be a huge oak tree on that corner and you have some decomposing tree roots feeding the mushrooms. I know because at the time it came down I was burning firewood and they allowed me to harvest a truck load or two.
