The coffee roasters at Maplewood’s La Cosecha Coffee were looking to collaborate with one of the many St. Louis craft (beer) brewers. Through Twitter they got together with Six Row Brewing.
“They fell in love with the coffee,” La Cosecha partner, Greg Lowe said, and, “We love their product.” They went into collaboration mode.
Six Row told La Cosecha what they were looking for, “So last week we brewed a bunch of coffee and took it down there and added to the beer and sampled it; it was outstanding,” Lowe said.
He said it’s an oatmeal coffee brown ale. “We sampled the beer, pre-coffee, and after the coffee was added—it makes you want another sip,” he said.
“Craft beer drinkers usually like craft coffee,” La Coseha’s Jamie Jeschke said. “We’ve tasted it and it’s excellent.”
The beer will be called First Crack, which refers to the popping of coffee as it’s roasted, like the sound popcorn makes when it’s popped. Coffee has a first crack and a second crack.
First Crack will be released in bottles in area stores in early Dec. for Six Row’s fifth anniversary.
Vom Foss (7314 Manchester Road) will host a tasting Dec. 13, and will carry it as well.
