Amelia Tufts and Gabe Batson, a.k.a Tufts & Batson, makers of bamboo fly fishing rods in Maplewood, took a finished rod to Ryan Hummert Memorial Park Monday to give it a shakedown before delivery.
Tufts said the varnish can sometimes affect the rod’s performance, but this one checked out A-OK. She said a rod will likely make a million casts in its lifetime.
This rod was bought through T. Hargrove Fly Fishing, in Brentwood. A customer saw a sample and ordered one made. Each rod take about two months to make. See also: Tufts & Batson: Maplewood’s bamboo fly fishing rod makers
