“Market Queens” examines black women’s entrepreneurship, tracing their involvement in trade from Africa to the New World (North America) and ending with a discussion of the first modern market queens: Madame C.J. Walker, Annie Malone, and Maggie Lena Walker. There is a St. Louis connection with Madame Walker and Malone, and even earlier with Elizabeth Keckley. Ms. Gwen Moore, curator with the Missouri History Museum, will present this most interesting program. Ms. Moore is Curator of Urban Landscape & Community Identity.
