Maplewood city officials Tuesday voted unanimously to allow St. Louis Kitchen (7325 Manchester) and Robata Sushi (7260 Manchester) to operate.

St. Louis Kitchen will be a Chinese restaurant in the former DOTS clothing store, near Shop ‘n Save. The restaurant will have a hot bar, but not an all-you-can-eat buffet, planning and zoning was told. It will seat approximately 35.

The owner of Robata had Sekisui, on South Grand, which is now closed. Robata is set to be a sushi, ramen and yakitori bar. It’s in the former Church’s Chicken location. In the meeting, Councilman Barry Greenberg asked the owner, Tom Chantharasy, if “predatory” towing would continue, as he said Church’s Chicken practiced at the location; Mayor Jim White didn’t allow the question.

A third restaurant, Tee’s 19, in the former Monarch space, received the first two required hearings, and is due to be on the next meeting agenda for final action, on Jan. 27.

  1. How exciting…. when I lived down in the Tower Grove East neighborhood my sons and I would frequent Sekisui….cannot wait to get onboard with their new sushi bar in Maplewood.

  2. I’m thinking (just guessing) that predatory towing is when the business has a car that doesn’t belong on their lot towed away. Such as possibly a car parking there and the people going into Schlaflys, across the street? Just guessing tho’.
