Brentwood switches recylable hauler

The city of Brentwood is its switching single-stream recyclables hauler. Its former hauler, Resource Management, has stopped accepting recyclables, St. Louis Public Radio has reported.

The city has hired Republic Services for three years and doesn’t plan to raise the rate for its residents.

Maplewood and Richmond Heights already use Republic for trash and recycling pickup.

Maplewood voters approved a proposition in April for an increase in the property tax to cover the service.

Reported in September: Richmond Heights City Manager Amy Hamilton reported to the city council that the city’s trash and recycling hauler, Republic Services, will continue to pick up residents’ recycling. She said more workers will be added to the sorting lines at Republic’s recycling facility, which could eventually increase the cost to the city.

  1. If we’d educate the public better to *only* throw clean valuable items in the recycling, this would not be necessary because the mountains of stuff would have some value: -Aluminum: yes – Glass: yes – Tin: yes – Explicitly labeled and numbered as welcome items: yes Everything else: no. China no longer wants our trash.
